For a young growing family, a seamless connection between inside and out was a crucial aspect of our clients needs. The project frames a lawned garden inbetween new living spaces, transforming the rear of the building into an intimate inner-city courtyard - the families own urban oasis of sorts. A level change across the site is integrated into the rear living spaces, with new floors lowered to match the garden and a double height ceiling space spilling northern light across the room.

“With limited space on a small inner city allotment, and with an existing weatherboard dwelling that had not been touched since its conception in the 1920’s, our brief was to extend to the rear and maximise the scale of each room in a contemporary manner, whilst retaining its classic charm”

"In a local government area renowned for its challenging approvals, Benn & Penna managed to deliver our brief and gained approval incredibly smoothly. Andrew and his team fully immersed themselves in every aspect of the project and worked closely with us to ensure our expectations were met. We now have a beautiful yet extremely functional space that is a pleasure to live in for the entire family. It is also sensitive to our surroundings and considerate to the aspect of the land”

“The positioning of the fireplace, cupboards, pantry, study area, bathrooms, rear deck, external kitchen - the list goes on. Everything just works”
